Vanny, one of our English Program students, is a brave and hopeful young girl living with her grandmother in a small village. Her mother had to leave to work in the city to save money for Vanny’s right arm surgery. Vanny’s arm was injured during a domestic violence incident when her mother, in a moment of desperation, pulled her arm too strongly, resulting in stiff joints.
Vanny’s father, who had two wives, divorced one and now lives with Vanny’s mother. Despite the challenges, Vanny’s mother promised her that she would return as soon as she had earned enough money to take Vanny to the hospital. Vanny’s arm is still fitted with cobalt chrome to help cure the joints, and she dreams of the day when she can move her arm freely again.
Living with her grandmother, Vanny finds comfort in the stories her grandmother tells and the hope that her mother will soon come back. She remains optimistic, knowing that her mother’s love and determination will bring them back together and heal her arm.
